Roxy loves taking trips--this is just before we were about to leave my mother-in-law's house. Roxy kept bouncing back and forth, window to window, looking at the rain. I finally got her to stay still for this shot.

The puppies all loved to play and wrestle to the point they would wear themselves out, eventually falling asleep mid-struggle like you see Turk on the left doing.

Juan--6 Weeks

Juan always seemed to enjoy being outside more than the other puppies--we only took them out about an hour at a time in the beginning and kept an eye on them since it was summer. At this point, there were just beginning to drink water and eat small amounts of kibble on their own.

Elliot also likes to do funny poses if you start to play and rub her belly. We bought them all chew toys, but at this age they also had the habit of putting their paws in their mouths.

You can get this effect with your pet photos using Adobe Photoshop. Duplicate the background layer twice and delete the bottom layer, which will be locked. On your new top layer, add a slight blur. Then erase any area you want to be in sharp focus.

To get J.D. to come toward me, I had to back up about 3 feet before taking the shot--he was right in front of me by the time I was ready. Similar to ducklings, the puppies all seemed to imprint with both my husband and me. It was funny having a line of 4 of them plus their mother Roxy following us around the yard.

This is Turk again at 4 weeks--they didn't know what to think of the grass at first, so it was pretty funny to watch. Turk was the most shy out of the group, but now that he's in what I guess is considered an adolescent puppy stage he's as friendly and playful as the others.

This is Turk--about a week old here. At this size, the puppies will fit in one of your hands. They sleep a lot, waking up only to feed for a little while and then go right back to sleeping again. So cute! :)

Juan was the only puppy with a pink/brown nose--his little nails were the same color. Being the pick of the litter, he is now with the family that owns the puppy's father (Eli--who is a registered miniature dachshund). I do miss the little guy and enjoyed having him around for 7 weeks. He has a happy home however.

Dachshund Puppies (Group--Few Days After Birth)

Our dachshund puppies--Turk, Elliot, Juan, and J.D. We named them after the doctors on Scrubs, with Juan being short for the Janitor's scene where he pronounces his name Dr. "Juan-It-Tor."

Elliot--She's about a week old here. (We named our puppies after the doctors on the show Scrubs, which is the explanation of why Elliot is a girl.)

Both Elliot and her mother Roxy (pictured above in the blog's title) are miniature dachshunds. Dachshunds as a breed also come in two other sizes, standard and kaninchen, the latter of which a specific variety of miniature recognized in some organizations.
